Even if there is still some crusty snow piled up on the sidewalks, spring is just around the corner — and with it comes the unofficial start of the new year. While many people attempt to start new habits and healthy routines at the top of the year, it can be challenging to maintain that "new year, new me" when it's still freezing outside and dark by 4:30pm.
But with March comes an opportunity to align ourselves with a more natural season of rebirth, the chance to bust out of our winter cocoons and seize the day as they gradually become longer and warmer. The early days of spring are the perfect time to take a moment and reflect on your goals, your priorities and what you want to accomplish this year — with 10 months still remaining in 2026, you have plenty of time to achieve all of your big dreams, and now with the season finally on your side, it's time to put things in motion.
Pssst... Here are a few printable planners I thought you might like!
The official start of spring is Friday, March 20th this year, which gives you plenty of time earlier on in the month to take a few hours and sit down with your thoughts.
Pour yourself a cup off coffee, clear out your morning calendar, and hide your phone in the desk drawer — because intentionally creating a few distraction-free hours for you to dive into a few journal prompts will help you get your thoughts in order and serve you well in the long run.
A great place to start is by asking yourself where you feel stuck or stagnant. Maybe it's with work, relationships or money — whatever it is, try to really dig deep, be honest, and let the words pour out onto the page. What daily habits reinforce this "stuck" feeling? Envision yourself a few weeks down the road having overcome this obstacle — what does that look like? The more specific details, the better.
You might also be tempted to do a physical spring cleaning at home, which surprisingly will have many mental benefits as well. Getting your hands dirty and finally tackling that overflowing hallway closet, those boxes stuff in the basement crawl space, or your messy garage is the perfect mindless, screen-free activity that will let your brain run on autopilot for a few hours.
Sometimes we have to turn the external inputs and constant notifications to [OFF] in order to allow our thoughts to marinate, fossilize, and be digested more clearly. Otherwise, we get stuck in constant consumption mode and never allow ourself to develop independent thoughts of our own. So if you're not sure what to journal about, go take 15 minutes and reorganized your kitchen junk drawer first while you let your brain wander, and I bet you'll come back to your journal with a few fresh ideas.
I talk about fresh starts often, because the truth is that you can decide to make one at any time. The first day of spring, New Year's Day, your birthday — they are all just arbitrary dates.
You can start fresh anytime you decide to take action and incorporate a healthy new habit into your routine. It could be a Monday morning, the start of a new month, or just any given Saturday night that you decide to trade your social plans to focus on yourself.
The benefit of aligning your goals and a fresh start with a specific date on the calendar or with the start of a season is purely behind-the-scenes motivation. It's helped me in the past, and while I know it doesn't mean much, if there is anything that helps me stick to my goals just a little bit longer, I'm all for it!
So whether you are sitting down to write on the following prompts exactly on March 1st, a week before, or 2.5 months later, it doesn't actually matter. Just grab a pen, crack open that notebook, and let your thoughts flow.
March 2026 Journal Prompts to Reset, Realign, and Start Fresh
1. What version of me am I ready to step into this season?
Describe her. How does she think? What does she prioritize? What does she let go of?
2. Where in my life do I feel most out of alignment — and why?
Is it how you’re spending your time? Who you’re prioritizing? The goals you’re chasing? Explore where things feel “off.”
3. What do I want more of this spring — and what needs to change to make space for it?
Energy, creativity, rest, confidence, connection, discipline — get specific.
Hopefully these thought-provoking journal prompts give you the motivation boost and head start you need to make the most of this month. As the old saying goes, March comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb — so if you feel that things are a bit swirly and chaotic right now, have some patience, write through the confusion, and know that there is calmness and clarity waiting for you on the other side.
Wishing you the best spring — happy journaling!
