Fifteen Self Care Quotes

for the Girl Who Puts Everyone Else First

self care quotes

We all have those weeks, or sometimes even whole months, where self-care gets totally overlooked. The to-do list drags on, the weekend plans overflow the calendar, and among all of the work, school, and other obligations you said "yes" to when you probably should have said "no", taking care of yourself gets completely deprioritized.

And then we wonder why we feel so burnt out — uhhhh, duh?

I'm a sucker for collecting quotes that speak to me and stashing them in my notes app, jotting them down on sticky notes, and scribbling them in the margins of my daily planners, because sometimes reading a single sentence at the right moment is enough to give my mood and motivation a 180º reset.

So today I'm here to share fifteen of my favorite self care quotes. Some of them are famous, and some I don't even remember where I first heard them, and all of them have stuck with me for one reason or another. I hope at least one of them lands for you, too!

Pssst... Here are a few printable planners I thought you might like!

Bookmark this post, screenshot the ones that hit, and come back to it whenever you need a reminder that you matter too.

And one more thing — if you're the type of person who needs a little external permission to actually prioritize yourself, consider this your official sign. You're allowed to rest, you're allowed to say no, and you're definitely allowed to put yourself on the list (even at the top).

The world will not fall apart if you take an hour for yourself. You already give so much of yourself to everything and everyone around you — it's about time some of that energy came back to you.

Taking care of yourself looks different for everyone — for some people it's a long bath and a face mask, for others it's finally going to bed before midnight or saying no to plans when they're feeling overwhelmed.

But one thing that works for almost everyone, regardless of what self-care looks like in practice, is having a few words to come back to when you've lost the plot a little. So take your time with these self care quotes, notice which ones make you stop and think, and save the ones that feel like they were written for you specifically.

Taking care of yourself is one of the most important things you will ever do, and it tends to affect everything else in ways you might not even notice: your relationships, your work, your mood, your ability to show up for the people you love.

So whether today is a good day or a hard one, I hope something in this list reminded you to be a little gentler with yourself and to stop treating your own needs like an afterthought. You deserve the same care and attention you give to everything and everyone else — and don't let anyone, including yourself, convince you otherwise.
