Confidence, ego, courage, resilience, self-worth — all of these important qualities ebb and flow depending on a million factors, some within our control and many that aren't. So it's probably no surprise that some days we spring out of bed and feel unstoppable, while other days we want to crawl back under the covers and hide from the world.
For those days where staying in bed and hiding from the world feels like the easier option, a bit of positive self-talk can do wonders.
You don't have to stare down the mirror while giving yourself an intense pep talk — though, many people do swear that it does help! Even just reading through this list of positive affirmations can hit a nerve in the best way, like hearing exactly what you needed, right when you needed to hear it most.
Pssst... Here's a few printable planners I thought you might like!
I've already rambled on and on many times about the super powers that come with starting a morning journaling habit. But sometimes, listening to an outside voice can provide a bit of perspective and/or a dose of tough love.
Reading through the list of positive affirmations below, there will no doubt be some that resonate stronger than others — when you read them, maybe a specific person, place, or past even will pop into your mind. Sometimes it's painful, but that’s usually a sign there’s something there worth working on.
Affirmations work best through repetition. The more you repeat something, the more your brain starts to recognize it as familiar, and eventually accept that it's true. And to be fair, most of the time it really is true — were not lying to ourselves here, we are just digging out the truth that has been buried by societal pressure, toxic relationships, or bad habits of comparison (thanks social media).
You don’t have to buy into every word on the first read. But take notice of which affirmations give you a twang of resonance, or even feel a little uncomfortable. That reaction usually means they’re hitting on something real, likely something that you’ve been taught to downplay or ignore.
Depending on your current season of life — the goals you’re pursuing, the clutter you’re trying to let go of, the automatic patterns you’re unlearning — some of these affirmations will sound like friendly reminders, while others might sound like a wake-up call to the truth you've been avoiding. Both have value, and both deserve your attention.
When one of the affirmations stands out, do something with it:
- Re-write it again in your own words
- Make a connection to something specific happening in your life
- Revisit it a few days later to see if it still feels true
You can save one in your notes app, turn it into a journal prompt, and read it a few times while having your morning coffee to start your day on the right foot.
I hope these positive affirmations struck a chord, and helped you slow down, reflect, or just see things with a bit more clarity. Some will land now, others might make sense later — that’s normal. In fact, I plan to keep coming back to this list too, because keeping things in perspective of the big picture is something I have to keep practicing right along with you.
Be nice to yourself this week!
